  • If you have joint pain or stiffness that does not go away, make an appointment with your doctor.

Causes

This is a detoriation of Cartilage of the end part of the joint. Cartilage is a tough, slippery tissue that allows the joint to move almost without friction.

Eventually, if the cartilage wears away completely, bone will rub against bone.

Osteoarthritis has often been referred to as a disease caused by wear and tear. But in addition to the breakdown of cartilage, osteoarthritis affects the entire joint. It causes changes in the bone and damage to the connective tissues that hold the joint together and attach muscle to bone. This condition can cause an inflammation of the joint lining, and that is why it can be warm by touch, redness sometimes, and stiff and painful.
